The effort of introducing domain names in different languages other than English is supported by several international entities that are trying to set the standards and provide the support the research in this field .

 

Arab league - Arab team for domain names

Arab league is providing the regional reference in setting the standards and take design in deciding which issues should be considered in the technical solutions .

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)

The GCC had started a Pilot Project with tha aim of implementing a test bed for Arabic Domain names in the GCC countries. This will allow all GCC countries to early experience the use of Arabic domain names, identify our needs, locate possible problems, and develop some tools.About the project .

The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA)

ESCWA promotes economic and social development through regional and subregional cooperation and integration and serves as the main general economic and social development forum within the United Nations system for the ESCWA region.
 

As per the recommendations of the 2nd meeting of the Working Group on Arabic Domain Names, formed under the auspices of the Arab League, that was held in Cairo, on the 7th and 9th of May 2005, it was recommended that the GCC Pilot Project for Arabic Domain Names to be extended to include all members of the Arab League. Hence, the project was renamed as follows: "Arabic Domain Names Pilot Project" and it will be under the auspices of the Arab League. an internet draft has been issued , the discussions and participations is available on this public forum :

The Multilingual Internet Names Consortium is a non-profit, non-governmental, international organization. It focuses on developing and promoting a truly multilingual Internet domain names and keywords, internationalization of Internet names standards and protocols, technical coordination and liaison with other international bodies.

Arabic Internet Names Consortium (AINC)

Coordinate the efforts of various national and regional initiatives, through an international forum and platform, which can be the unified voice for all Arabic speaking communities world wide, to ensure that the Arabic Based Languages script is one of the first languages to be enabled on the Internet domain names space.

Communications and Information Technology Commission

Communications and Information Technology Commission participation in the project is a very major one , CITC currently host the infrastructure of the SaudiNIC as one of it's departments . that includes the infrastructure of the Saudi part in the Arabic domain names pilot project .
      

Saudi Network Information Center

SaudiNIC is one of the pioneer entities in pushing for the use of Arabic language for domain names, It has been working for several years in preparing the bases for implementing ADNS, through several surveys and papers that had been presented in several interracial events .
